Marching Into The Future

Dear fellow CMB alumni,

You should have recently received an email announcing the “Marching into the Future” campaign to grow the endowment and annual support for the Cavalier Marching Band. The University has launched this effort to build on the generosity of Carl and Hunter Smith and other founding supporters. One of the primary goals of the campaign is to have 100% of CMB alumni participate by making annual gifts in support of the Band.

Though the Band has grown from an original 160 members to 320 members this year, the Band’s budget has not seen similar growth. In order to not just preserve but also enhance the CMB experience for current students, our philanthropy is important. More information is available on the University’s website about

the campaign and how our individual contributions will support the growth and financial stability of the CMB.

The campaign has already received gifts from some CMB alumni but is still far away from reaching the 100% participation goal. If you have already given this year, thank you. If you have not given, please join me in supporting deserving students, heightening the musical experience of band members, and ensuring the success of the Cavalier Marching Band for future generations. Your gift, no matter the amount, will make an impact.

If you have questions about

making a gift, you would like to update your contact information with UVa or are interested in volunteering to help with the “Marching into the Future” campaign, please email supportcmb@virginia.edu. Erin Hall, who is working closely with Mr. Pease on this effort, will be happy to connect with you. I also invite you to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Kearby Chen

2012 Runoff Board Election [Updated]

Candidates’ statements (if they chose to submit one) will be posted

Hun

ter Cook
To those alumni who may not know me, my name is Hunter Cook, a graduate of the Class of 2012. I spent three years in the trombone section and in my fourth year I served as one of the drum majors. I have a wide variety of administrative and leadership experience that qualifies me to be an excellent candidate for the Member-at-Large position. During my time at UVA, I served as a variety of board positions in my co-ed honor fraternity, Phi Sigma Pi, as well as founded a student organization, Games Outdoors. In the CMB, my time as a librarian and as drum major gave me a unique appreciation for the internal workings of both the administrative and the performance sides of the band. I’m very interested in expanding the Cavalier Marching Band’s alumni outreach, which I think has the potential to be one of the CMB’s greatest assets long-term. We are still a very young organization, and I would be honored to help with the CMB’s continued growth. Thanks for reading!

[Update] Congratulations to Hunter Cook!
